January Meet-Up
Location: Croton Gorge Park
Date: January 12, 2013
Day: Saturday
Time: 3pm

Our visit to Croton Dam was fun. We had planned to photograph ice formed on rocks and trees from the spray from water flowing over the spillway. Due to above average temperatures for January there was no ice or snow. However, the pictures were still exceptional and we had a great time. The dam is beautiful.

Our visit started at Croton Gorge Park right at the base of the dam. Then we car-pooled around to the top and walked across the top of the dam. Someone said they saw a sign warning that the park closes at 5:30 and the gates are locked. We got back to our cars at exactly 5:30. I’m still not sure if they actually put a gate across the road but we didn’t want the chance of our cars getting locked in.

Thanks everybody were coming out to this event.

Year in Review
Location: Orange County Arts Council, 23 White Oak Drive, Sugar Loaf, New York
Date: January 25, 2013
Day: Friday
Time: 6pm - 9pm

2012 photo critique. We will be reviewing and critiquing the year’s collection of our best images. This is open to all members regardless if you want to bring photographs to be critiqued, want to help critique or just watch and learn. Bring your photos in on a USB flash drive or camera card. Please keep the number of photos down to a reasonable number. Photos must have been taken sometime in 2012, be taken in Orange County (preferably) or the Hudson Valley or at least in New York.

I would like to invite professionals in the photography/art industry to help us out with the critiquing so if you have any contacts, please pass their information on to me.

Our best photographs will be placed in a book to be published and sold on Amazon. Proceeds of the book will cover the costs of the photography group such as website fees, room rental fees, supplies for gallery showings, we need an easy-up tent for the art walks, etc.

This will also be a pot-luck (snack/finger food and drinks) gathering so bring some food.

I've seen photos of the trotters out practicing with their horses in the cold and the pictures are beautiful. We will meet in the morning to get the best lighting but if you want to come later, let me know.

Comments:
Wilma Amthor: I am on call 7p-7a sat so if I don`t show it means I got called in to work
Jeff Montanye: There is parking behind the trotter`s museum where the grand stands are just off Main Street. You can also park on main street. We should be able to get some nice shots from this point.
Jeff Montanye: Even though the snow will probably present a wonderful opportunity for photos, it will also make it difficult to get out on Saturday morning so I am planning on rescheduling for next Saturday at 7am.
Barbara Fixsen: Is this still on for Tomorrow Morning?
Jeff Montanye: Yes, we are still on for tomorrow although we may not have sun. I went to the track this morning and there was one trainer out on the track. He said more would come soon.
Barbara Fixsen: I got up late and had no clue how long you would be there... I am sorry I missed this
Jeff Montanye: Not many people showed up. we didn`t have the nice morning sun. We didn`t stay long.

March Meet-Up
Location: Clove Road, High Falls
Date: March 09, 2013
Day: Saturday
Time: 10am

Tree Roots
The mock wedding is off. I was unable to obtain a church, models or wedding dress in time. I blame my long hours spent working. So instead I am bringing you to one of the most interesting secrets in the Hudson Valley. The owner of the Giant Redwood tree roots has requested that we do not share the location with anybody. Last time a photo of the sign with his contact information leaked out onto Facebook he was inundated with phone calls. The display is only for those who happen upon it while traveling in the area. Also, there is limited parking, only two, maybe three vehicles. The Coxing Trailhead parking area near Split Rock is closed. So, we will be parking at the Awasting parking area on Minnewaska property and carpool from there. The cost is $8.00. Afterwards we can walk the short distance to Awasting Falls.

Warwick's Annual Firemen's Carnival
Location: Veteran's Memorial Park
Warwick, NY
Date: June 30, 2013
Day: Sunday
Time: 9:30pm

Capture photographs of rides and fireworks at the Warwick Firemen’s Annual Carnival. This photo was taken at the carnival in 2012. If all goes well we can recreate the shot this year. The carnival goes from 6pm to 11pm and there is no charge to get in. Fireworks start at 10pm so we should get there at least by 9:30, maybe even 9pm just to be sure. Last year the fireworks went on for a very long time. There was plenty of opportunities to get shots of the rides and fireworks in the background. Bring your tripod!

December Meet-Up
Blue Hour Photography

Location: Orange County Arboretum (Tentative)
Date: December 14, 2013
Day: Saturday
Time: 4pm - 6pm

Blue Hour refers to the time after the sun goes below the horizon and the sky goes into deep blue for a while. This is the best timing to take night photos, especially of Christmas Lights. The "Blue Hour" does not last for an entire hour as the name suggests. You only have about 15 minutes to capture this beautiful lighting. We will meet long before it gets dark and plan our shots then we will wait for that special moment. Come out and learn about blue hour photography.
